Here at truly you, the heart and core message of it all is to understand your God-given identity in life. I believe that understanding your identity is the key to living in your God-given freedom in life! This sounds great, but let’s break it down a little bit so we can better understand what this looks like in our lives and how we can walk this out practically.
First, let’s get a solid foundation, what is identity? Well, the oxford dictionary’s definition is a simple one which says, “the fact of being who or what a person or thing is”. Pretty basic right? So how can this super simple thing, make such a major impact on our lives? As stated before, I believe that understanding your identity in life is the key to living in your God-given freedom because what we believe, is what guides our direction and choices of life. Here is an example to help explain what I mean above!
Imagine, you are searching for a restaurant to eat at, well if you believe that eating meat is bad for you, chances are you aren’t going to go pick a burger bar to eat at, but you will make a choice to try to find a vegetarian-friendly restaurant! But, say you LOVE all things meat and you feel you can’t live without it because it is good for you and fuels you, you definitely aren’t going to find a vegan or vegetarian restaurant! What you believe guides and dictates what you do in life!

The same thing goes for your identity! If you walk around believing lies about yourself, you will live your whole life in bondage to the enemy and his lies! But if you allow God to define you and his word to be the thing that gives you your identity, who knows what crazy things God will do through your life!
Let’s go back to that definition from oxford dictionary, “being who or what a person is”. Your identity is found in what you define yourself as. So if you are constantly saying things about yourself that are negative or you allow your job or season of life to define you, then you have a false view of your identity. You need to go to God’s word and grow closer to Him and you will be able to correctly “define” yourself and shift your view or perspective of yourself in the alignment of God’s word and walk in your identity.
So you need to recognize those thoughts of self-doubt or fear and anxiety that sneak into your head and when they come in, make it a habit to replace that lie with a truth of what God says about you! And if you don’t know, then I encourage you if you can, to stop at that moment that those thoughts come in, and ask God what He says about you that proves that lie is wrong!
If you need a headstart, then here are some truths you can start speaking over yourself daily to help you begin walking in your identity and what God has spoken over you and replace those lies the enemy has tried to label you with!
